German Cockroach German Cockroaches: A Serious Threat

⚠️ Current Issue: Our building is experiencing an infestation of pesticide-resistant German cockroaches, which require a comprehensive management approach.

🔬 What Are German Cockroaches?

German cockroaches are small (½ to ⅝ inch long), light brown to tan insects with two dark parallel stripes behind their heads. They are the most common indoor cockroach species.

  • Reproduce rapidly (up to 300 offspring per year)
  • Prefer warm, humid environments
  • Hide in cracks, crevices, and appliances
  • Active primarily at night

German cockroaches have developed resistance to many common pesticides, making traditional treatment methods less effective.

  • Multiple resistance genes passed to offspring
  • Can resist pyrethroid insecticides
  • Requires integrated pest management
  • Rotation of treatment methods needed

German cockroaches pose serious health risks to building residents:

  • Allergens: Trigger asthma and allergies
